About us:

About us: The Northern Virginia STEM Learning Network was established by Virginia Tech in 2007 as an informal network of STEM educators. It became a formal part of the DMV Ecosystem in 2021 until that ecosystem grant expired in 2024. In October 2025 we received national recognition of our ecosystem and were now building the architecture to accomplish our goals. Please join us.

Tree planting help needed in Arlington

A message from Vincent Verweij:

The Arlington Tree Stewards has had a great response for the planting this weekend, but they still have some slots open. Here are the details and the link:

Join Casey Trees and the City of Arlington as we add 27 trees to Butler Holmes Park (101 S Barton St).

Requirements:

  • All volunteers must sign a completed volunteer waiver form before participating. Children under 18 years of age must have their parent or legal guardian sign a consent form and be supervised by an adult at all times. Waivers will be provided but to ease the registration process it is helpful to bring a completed copy to the event.
  • No specific skills required. Each event starts with a tool safety and care demonstration.
  • Register in advance. Space is limited. If your plans change prior to the event, please update your registration status so we are sure to have the necessary number of volunteers.
  • Arrive on time. Check-in opens a half hour prior to the indicated start time and volunteers must be present for the tool safety demonstration at the start of the event.
  • Dress comfortably and appropriately for the weather. Closed toe shoes are required.

Getting There:

Once you arrive at the park, look for registration under the large metal gazebo.

Public Transportation: The 42 and 77 Metrobus lines service this neighborhood.

Parking: There is ample street parking nearby.
