Building Leaders for Advancing Science and Technology

Students will have an opportunity to choose from a session at Virginia Tech, July 12-15, 2015 or one of two sessions at the University of Virginia, July 26-29 or August 2-5.
Transportation to and from Virginia Tech and the University of Virginia is the responsibility of each family.
Who can apply:
Current 8th and 9th grade students from Virginia middle and high schools, private schools and homeschooled. Please note, students who previously participated in BLAST are NOT eligible to apply as we wish to provide as many students as possible a BLAST experience.
In order to participate, students must:
- Be a Virginia resident.
- Be a current 8th grade or 9th grade student at the time of application.
- Have an interest or curiosity in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM).
- Have a grade level average at least B to C+.
Students will be participating in fun and engaging activities such as:
University of Virginia
o Mechanical Engineering: Build a solar car
o Space Science: Build a robot to complete missions on a Martian landscape
o Astronomy: View planets and other celestial objects at the McCormick Observatory
o Chemistry: Identify chemicals in an unknown solution
o Engineering Design: Design and test insulation materials
o And more!
