About us: The Northern Virginia STEM Learning Network was established by Virginia Tech in 2007 as an informal network of STEM educators. It became a formal part of the DMV Ecosystem in 2021 until that ecosystem grant expired in 2024. In October 2025 we received national recognition of our ecosystem and were now building the architecture to accomplish our goals. Please join us.

Summer Institute - High Performance Computing in the Life/Medical Sciences

Virginia Bioinformatics Institute at Virginia Tech is hosting a "High Performance Computing in the Life/Medical Sciences" 2-week summer institute ( http://nsfsi.vbi.vt.edu ) sponsored by the National Science Foundation. 

This summer 2-week intensive course (July 22- Aug. 2, 2013) is directed towards eligible undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs interested in further developing their expertise in biology relevant high performance and data intensive computing field.

During the course, participants will attend lectures and discussions by leading field members including academic and industrial affiliates and work on a group research project with three other course participants.


The course is supported by a NSF Funded Award No. OCI-1124123. A travel stipend, including lodging (in a Virginia Tech dorm room) and sustenance (primarily from the Virginia Tech dining halls) is provided. Application deadline is March 30th; please see http://nsfsi.vbi.vt.edu/application.php .
