Job Description

Reporting to the Director of K-12 Programs, this role partners with the Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of integrated K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and computer science programs for formal and informal education settings, in accordance with Virginia Standards of Learning and national standards in requisite areas. The K-12 Program Manager supports the accomplishment of program goals within the prescribed time frame and funding parameters while adhering to quality standards. This position also ensures the K-12 program runs operationally and serves as the point of contact for the program.

The responsibilities include:

● Facilitating professional development as applicable to support STEM education programs for students, teachers, and families
● Utilizing content and pedagogy expertise to support teachers in the development and implementation of integrated K-12 Science, Mathematics, Educational Technology, Computer Science, Engineering (STEM) instruction, in accordance with Virginia Standards of Learning and national standards in requisite areas
● Implementing K-12 STEM teacher professional development, afterschool programs and initiatives as they relate to and support state and national standards
● Developing culturally relevant curriculum materials for engaging diverse student populations
● Managing a hybrid community of practice to support and coach K-12 educators by modeling, sharing lessons, educational resources, and toolkits for implementing best practices into classrooms
● Working collaboratively with K-12 public school districts, Virginia Tech community, nonprofits, corporations and other stakeholders
● Marketing Virginia Tech Innovation Campus K-12 Initiatives to diverse stakeholders

The Virginia Tech Innovation Campus is a bold, new vision for research and graduate education in computer science and computer engineering. Located adjacent to the

nation’s capital in Alexandria, Virginia, it will unite industry, government, and academia in dynamic project-based learning and purpose driven research to shape the way emerging technologies influence society. Construction is underway on the 11-story first academic building for the Innovation Campus, which is set to open in 2024.

Required Qualifications

● A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Science, or STEM-related degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience
● Experience with implementing best practices in developing STEM education programs, professional developments and summits/conferences
● Ability to effectively collaborate with the necessary teams and individuals to ensure success, both within and outside of the external operations environment
● Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple priorities and solve problems independently
● Experience teaching or administering a STEM or computing related program
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

● Experience with developing high quality curriculum, and/or assessment and educational programs for School, district, state, and informal learning settings
● Teaching certification
● Experience with hybrid learning environments

Pay Band    -  4

Appointment Type - Restricted

Salary Information -  Starting at $65,000; commensurate with experience

Additional Information  -  The successful candidate will be required to have a criminal conviction check.
